According to Customs statistics, in the period January to April 2009, China's total imports and exports declined from the same period last year; of which exports amounted to US $337.421 billion, down by 20.5 percent year-on-year and imports amounted to $261.987 billion again a fall of 28.7 percent year-on-year.
Among all customs points in China, Shanghai Customs achieved the highest amount of trade turnover with exports fetching $94.024 billion, while imports reached $50.837 billion, both sharply declining from the same period of last year. Exports and import value fell sharply 23 and 28.7 percent respectively.
Among China's 40 major customs points, only Chengdu, Hangzhou, Changsha and Yinchuan Customs achieved increase in export value, while all the remaining customs indicated decline in export value. Shenzhen Customs ranked the second place, followed by Nanjing, Qingdao and Huangpu Customs in that order.
