In collaboration with Nissan and Komatsu Seiren, Idemitsu Technofine of Japan has recently developed a new protein leather fabric called Sofiless, which contains special powder extracted from eggs.

Protein artificial leather is a comfortable material developed by combining protein powder with a special resin. Its excellent humidity absorption- and-release characteristics control humidity to realize a level of comfort that approaches that of natural material.

Nissan will use it in the upcoming launch of its new car 'Fuga' for door-rests, centre console-lid and kneepad. The polyurethane-based fabric, which looks, performs and feels like leather is already being used by European and Japanese car manufacturers in China.

At the same time, the Chinese branch of Idemitsu is increasing applications in use of synthetic leather, by integrating protein powder derived from the scouring residue of silk yarns.
