Loss of jobs of about 59 workers at the Newfoundland, Shoe Company has bestowed a huge blow to the communities in the Conception Bay area.

Moreover, Terra Nova Shoes that has been operating in Harbour Grace since decades has also announced a layoff mentioning, poor market demand for working shoes and a decline in demand of military shoes from the Department of National Defense, as reasons for such an announcement.

Among all these, the Harbour Grace shoe factory is the only factory that is still continuing without any layoff. The layoffs will take toll on the tax base of Harbour Grace and other small nearby communities, stated Mayor, Don Coombs.

However, in Kodiak Group Holdings, which is the parent company of Terra Nova Shoes, around 105 workers are still employed and it will set its focus on the production and development of new footwear designs to build new business, thereby, gaining more orders of military shoes.
