E-commerce has revolutionised India’s retail sector and will have to play a major role if the economy has to grow at 9 per cent, according to Niti Aayog chief executive officer Amitabh Kant, who sees both traditional and e-commerce retail market co-existing despite changing consumer behaviour. India is currently growing at over 7 per cent.

Driven by retail growth, India’s gross domestic product will also witness a rise and result in more employment, a news agency report quoted Kant as saying at an event in New Delhi.

At the same event, secretary general of the Confederation of All India Traders Praveen Khandelwal said e-commerce at present is greatly vitiated by online companies who are indulging in predatory pricing, deep discounting and lose funding. (DS)
