Pure London collaborates with Graduate Fashion Week

Pure London has announced that the fashion event is collaborating with Graduate Fashion Week to showcase ten of this year’s graduates from the ‘Top 25 Graduate Collections’ including award winners, on the Pure London main stage catwalk. Pure London is UK’s leading trade fashion buying event, which will be held from July 22 to 24, 2018, in London.

As part of Pure London’s ongoing commitment to supporting up and coming design talent, visitors will be able to see the inspiring and visionary work of these newly graduated designers on the catwalk throughout the three day event.

Graduates showcasing their work include Aurelie Fontan from Edinburgh College of Art, winner of the M&S Womenswear Award, the Catwalk Textiles Award, and the Dame Vivienne Westwood Sustainable & Ethical Award. With sustainability and a holistic approach at the heart of her work, the collection is based on several closed-loop systems, involving an alternative seaming method that allows different fabrics (wool, Modal, cork) to be separated when recycled. The range also includes bio-textiles, in the form of a grown fabric that is 100 per cent biodegradable and put together with soluble cable ties made from corn starch. The garments themselves are mainly cut with a zero-waste construction of panels layered in tessellation and the laser-cut textures are created based on a double helix DNA waste-free pattern.

Aurelie will also be joining the panel discussion on the Future of Sustainable Fashion Design hosted by Hilary Alexander on July 24, 2018.

Also taking part in the Pure London & GFW catwalk are David Band Textiles Award winner Marta Kazmierczak from Edinburgh College of Art; George Catwalk to Store winner Louise Clark from Manchester School of Art; Debenhams Menswear Award winner Hannah Gibbins from University of Brighton; Visionary Knitwear Award joint winners Fraser Miller from De Montfort University and Jacaranda Brain from Nottingham Trent University; and Catwalk Textiles Award runner up Maddy Stringer from Edinburgh College of Art.

Top 25 graduates Kirstie Johnston, Heather Rowland, Jadesola Ayemobola, and Ambrose Frøsaker Lunde will also display their graduate collections. (GK)
