Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi opens IFJAS; appreciates EPCH efforts

Minister of State for Textiles Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi inaugurated the 4th edition of the Indian Fashion Jewllery and Accessories Show (IFJAS) at India Expo Centre and Mart at a colourful ceremony.

While inaugurating the IFJAS, the Minister urged the exporting community to make vigorous and aggressive marketing so that India's share can be increased at a much faster rate than at present. Indian products are found to be very competitive in price, quality, designs and presentation, therefore, the task should not be very difficult. The Minister also stated that “world market for fashion jewellery and accessories is around US $ 16.3 billions, yet despite an extraordinary growth in exports from India, the share of India is negligible in the global market.”

The Minister also highlighted the specialty of Indian fashion jewellery and accessories including the diverse range, ethnic, modern and contemporary designs, exquisite craftsmanship and intricate work, varied raw material base and the variety of usages offered by Indians to the world market.

She appreciated the efforts made by the exporting community and the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), organizers of the mega event, in the recent past in recording an impressive growth rate in exports of fashion jewellery and accessories. Increase in growth in exports of more than 200% indicates the strength and competitiveness of Indian products in the world market.

She also lauded the role of EPCH in collaborating with the Ministry of Textiles and Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) in implementation of Government policies and increasing exports.

The fashion jewellery and accessories form an important part of the total export basket of handicrafts sector. In fact, fashion jewellery and accessories is sunrise segment of the handicrafts. This group has been showing continuous increase in exports. Even during the economic recession in US and Europe, the exports of fashion jewellery and accessories did not suffer much.

She said that about 200 exporters are displaying a wide range at this show which is vast and covers fashion jewellery, semi precious jewellery, accessories like shawls, scarves, hand bags, purses, wallet, belts, fancy shoes, embroidered accessories etc. The designs on display are rich, traditional, modern and contemporary to suite all sections of society and markets.

One of the highlights of the show is participation by SWOROVSKI ELEMENTS, a leading fashion design company known in the world market.

SWOROVSKI ELEMENTS will be presenting their special items like earrings, hand bags, small broaches, shoes, necklaces, crystallized helmet, hair bands etc. They will also be making a fashion statement by models to assess the buyers' response.

At the time of inauguration, 200 foreign buyers have already confirmed their presence to source their requirement from a diverse range. These buyers are from Australia, Chile, Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungry, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovenia,, South Africa, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Panama, Switzerland, UK and USA. Many more buyers are expected to be present unannounced at the show who may be travelling from east to west on business mission making a stopover at Delhi.
