12th International Fair of Eye Optics and Ophthalmology – OPTA 2006 to be held 24–26 February 2006 at Brno Exhibition Centre. Seeing increasing interest from exhibitors and visitors every year, for which reason OPTA 2006 is to be held for the first time in the larger and more appropriate Pavilion V.

The OPTA 2005 trade fair was a success in terms of its scale and quality, and the event is becoming the most important presentation of the industry in Central and Eastern Europe. The presentation of the exhibits at the fair and the quality of the exhibition stands has improved considerably.

Any further potential for increasing the number of exhibitors lies largely in attracting producers (exhibitors) from Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. from Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Support of the Slovak professional organization has been promised from 2006 to streghten the multinational character of the fair.

The Brno Exhibition Center has been the center of international fairs in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe for more than 70 years.

Brno has been known worldwide as the city of exhibitions and fairs for more than seven tens of years. The Brno Exhibition Center with its permanent and modern halls was built for the Exhibition of Contemporary Culture on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic.

The Exhibition was staged from 26 May to the end of September 1928 on 30 000 sqm and attended by a record number of 2 700 000 visitors.

The magnificent design of the exhibition center was an excellent work of the functionalist Czechoslovak architects of the twenties and until 1938 more than 50 exhibitions were held there at the prewar time. International fairs, however, did not take place before World War 2 in Brno.
