Textile firms involved in social cause

Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association conveyed that the textiles companies are investing in social responsibility projects.
While some textile sector companies seek to provide more visibility to their products by exhibiting them at the largest fashion event held in São Paulo this week – the SP Fashion Week – others spend all year supporting and investing in social responsibility projects directed towards local communities with the intent to strengthen their image and project their brand.
Companies such as Lupo and Marisol, for example, participate in works in partnership with public authorities and class entities to provide job opportunities to the physically handicapped as well as recycle and transform garbage generated in production processes into school material.
Leading hosiery and underwear manufacturer company Lupo currently has 23 physically challenged associates on their staff and for which a special unit was created. To insert those with special needs in the job market, Lupo inaugurated a new apparel unit the end of last semester.
The recently created work station is completely geared towards attending to the physically challenged. The doors are larger, the bathrooms adapted, ramps replace stairways to permit access by those in wheelchairs, and internal dividers were eliminated.
Some of these physically challenged had already done work for the organization at the Udefa therapeutic workshop and the Association of Parents and Friends ofthe Mentally Handicapped (Apae). With the new unit, Lupo now has 54 handicapped employees on its staff. 'The employees hired to work for us perform basic services such as product finishing, packaging and ticketing of the company's entire product line,” he said.
