Thai textile industry successful

Thailand's textile and garment industry is preparing to wow the highly competitive global textile and garment market with style, flare and grace. And international fashion industry figures are championing Thailand's efforts, one Italian designer calling Thailand an “Asian fashion powerhouse”.
Since the launch of the Thai government backed Bangkok Fashion City program, many initiatives to support and promote Bangkok as an unforgettable fashion paradise have been implemented. All of the activity is designed to provide a further boost to Thailand's textile and garment industry, which has experienced high growth rates for most of the last decade.
As Director-General of the Department of Industrial Promotion and Director of Bangkok Fashion City Pramode Witayasuk points out, Thailand is indeed transforming itself into one of the world's most successful exporters of textile and garment products.
The entire textile and garment industry is a key revenue source for Thailand with exports of garment and textile products totalling almost $US6.72 billion in 2005.
Mr Witayasuk's confidence is reflected in the comments of leading fashion industry figures the world over, who are excited about Thailand's high potential as a fashion destination:
Ms Georgianna Appignani of New York's Fashion Institute of Technology noted Thailand's strong potential to develop as a leading fashion destination due to its ability to offer a complete production cycle. It's unique culture and arts could also be drawn upon and used to create outstanding and distinctly Thai fashion.
