Footwear retail market grows slowly in 2006

The UK footwear market is growing at its slowest rate for seven years and lagging behind both clothing and accessories.

This low growth coupled with cost inflation and price deflation means that it is increasingly important for footwear retailers to protect their market shares and margins.

Understanding footwear retailing and shopping preferences is important not only for footwear specialists but also for clothing and sports retailers and supermarkets as they extend their reach into this category.

UK Footwear Retailers 2006 is a new report published by Verdict that examines the dynamics of the UK footwear market and the reasons for its recent weak performance.

This report analyses 21 retailers, including 12 of the leading footwear specialists, six clothing specialists and, for the first time three of the major sportswear specialists.

Between them they account for almost three-quarters of the total market value. The report also provides market shares, market sizes and forecasts for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
