Mr Lee Yi Shyan to open The Designers Show

In recent years, The Designers Show (TDS) has given participating Singapore and regional designers the avenue to expand overseas to countries like Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Middle East, Italy, UK, USA and others.
Through its participation in previous TDS, Indonesia's XSML had started exporting to Philippines two years ago and now continue to supply season after season to the same buyer.
Malaysia's Khoon Hooi was picked up by one of Taiwan's top department stores, IDEE and started selling his collections there after the last TDS.
This proves Khoon Hooi's success in the Taiwan market with a recent merchandise re-order worth more than US$40,000 from the same store.
Through the buyers invited under the Hosted Buyers & Press Programme supported by the Local Enterprise Association Development Programme (LEAD), Singapore's Abyzz, Allure, Celia Loe, Daniel Yam, IS, Tian, WOMB and others have also found new exporting markets for themselves to countries like Middle East, USA, Europe, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and others.
As organiser, TaFf or Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore) provides a platform for designers and labels to present their complete six-month collections for the consumer market to both local and international buyers.
To be held over three days downtown at 72 – 13 on Mohd Sultan Road, participating designers will also be assigned showroom space to sell their collections and conduct business meetings with buyers and press on the same premises.
The success of TDS was further enhanced with the introduction of the ACCESS USA Programme in 2005 as a means for Singapore designers and labels to gain entry to and succeed in the tough USA market by providing the designers with logistic, administrative and creative support with a full time office in New York to manage the designers' business in the US.
Through their participation in TDS 2005, Allure, Daniel Yam and WOMB from Singapore were selected for the pilot project with the help of the US consultant.
In 2006, the programme was expanded to encompass foreign labels participating in TDS. Thus designer Khoon Hooi from Malaysia, together with Celia Loe and Tian from Singapore were selected and would be presenting their first ever complete collections to the US buyers and showrooms in August 2007.
