The Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC) in New Delhi, set up by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), plans to introduce a specialised three-year diploma course in jewellery design and manufacturing technology.

The new course has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and will include manufacturing training with the latest technology, including computer-aided design.

“With increasing exports from India to quality conscious international markets, the gem and jewellery industry needs new designs and global quality,” JPDC co-convenor Rajender Bhola said in a statement.

“The JPDC's expansion project will not only help in developing jewellery for exporters but also cut costs, giving the industry much needed competitive edge,” he added.
