Valentino explores new elements in S/S'14 collection

For the Spring/Summer 2014, the Creative Directors go beyond safe and familiar territory to explore new elements.

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, after a visit to the Rome Opera workshops, noticed the affinities and differences between the atelier and the theatre and created a luxurious and opulent repertoire, blending Opera with the street.

The collection is a journey amidst elements borrowed from imaginary ethnic groups: subtle references are blended into an edgy vertical silhouette with a sleek sense of regality. Rich fabrics are combined with audacious skill: embroidered griffins perch on chinos and form a shield on bustier tops.

Embroidered jackets worn over evening dresses have a luxurious dégagé look. Capes, ponchos, and blouses reduced to an abstraction of style have a solemn movement that is accented by denim. The body is sheathed in long ankle-length column dresses or exposed by micro playsuits.

Self-affirmation is expressed through ornamentation such as a lost wax cast jewelry and precious embellishments and details on leather footwear. Intense colors range from dark red and deep green to rich coral and absolute black. Sacredness and substance intertwine.

Combining ancestral austerity and sensual opulence, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli create an amazing and ever-changing look based on today’s modern woman.
