Nike India is planning to expand its retail footprint in different formats in Northern Indian State of Punjab.
Punjab market is considered vibrant with consumers having disposable incomes and growth can be enhanced by increasing consumer awareness, believes Nike.
Nike stores are scheduled to come up in malls, metros and class II towns of the state.
Retail experts say that malls are expected to increase to around 40 by 2010, taking the total space in this segment to about 3.18 million square feet.
"Nike brand is sold in more than 1000 stores in India which has prompted us to expand here through different distribution route," said Jaideep Wahi, Accounts Manager, Nike India Private Limited.
Punjab's consumption level is higher than all-India average in almost every retailing category like clothing and footwear.
The state has a huge consumer base that is young and willing to spend, said an official spokesperson of Nike India.
New innovative products in footwear, apparel and accessories which the company launches every season, will support growth, said.
As sports icons influence youths, they plan to elevate their marketing strategies and product offerings.
Plan to bring in the best of global trends incorporating local ingredients into it.
Specially designed footwear has been launched for Indian conditions, she added.
