France's GIVENCHY S.A. is now seeking a passage to India following the ingress of a chain of dynamic fashion brands like Dior, Hugo Boss, Escada, and Tommy Hilfiger.

A global leader in luxury goods, the premium French cosmetics and fashion wear brand owned by LVMH group, will reveal its complete array of fragrances and cosmetics in the country by the end of this month.

In India, Euro Traditions, distributors of fashion brand Dior, will market Givenchy. During the first year of its India safari, Givenchy is aspiring at 50 shop-in-shop outlets and at least one or two stand-alone, elite stores.

Givenchy's existence will equally increase in India as the retail culture expands and its delivery channels in India will be Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop and Pantaloons. At the outset, Givenchy will market its range of fragrances for both sexes and cosmetics.

However, sources said, the power brand is not ruling out bringing its fashion wear to India. Dior retails its elite variety of fashion attire from a single outlet, the Oberoi in Delhi.

Givenchy's products in India will be 5-10% cheaper than Dior wares. A 100 ml perfume bottle for women will cost Rs 3,800. Givenchy will at the outset open its products in metros and other cities like Pune, Cochin and a few other Tier-II towns.

Estee Lauder and Lancome other premium fashion brands are also waiting in the wings to enter India. The market news is that while Estee Lauder has put up an office in Mumbai, Lancome is in the course of setting up its offices in the country and a formal launch is not far away.

These two brands are looking to strike the direct route relatively than the distributor format to arrive in India.
High-end perfumes, with which brands like Dior, Givenchy, Estee, Lancome are associated with, are a niche market in India.

'The market in India is not yet mature and that could be the reason, Estee Lauder and Lancome have delayed their entry,' according to a source.

In 1953 one of Hubert de Givenchy's designs was featured on the cover of Life magazine.
