A survey was held on women and their work fashion in Tokyo. This survey revealed that 44 percent of the women had replied that there is no regulation on their dress codes for work.
As the female workers had usually worn uniforms, this revealed that the dress codes are becoming more casual nowadays.
The survey was done on women who reside in Tokyo and work at the age of 20 to 25. For the question of having uniforms or any dress codes, 23 percent responded as having a uniform and a dress code. 32 percent responded as to having no uniform but a dress code. The majority had replied as to having neither uniform nor a dress code; 44 percent.
For women in the age of 30 to 35, a question regarding the dress codes 10 years ago was asked. 52 percent had replied as to having had a uniform and a dress code.
16 percent had replied as to having no uniform but regulations regarding their dress codes, and 31 percent had no codes.
In the past 10 years, companies requiring women to wear uniform had decreased by 30 points, and no codes up by more than 10 points. This survey had revealed that more and more women at work are free to dress as they please.
It was also revealed that on a normal day at work, not including the days for meetings and special occasions, women are able to wear camisoles, jeans and no stockings. These 3 items had gone up over 10 points and women are allowed to wear them to work.

The above survey was taken by Macromill and had received 309 responses. The result of this survey reveals not only the obvious, which is that dress codes are becoming more and more free, but that because more women have the choice of wearing whatever they want to work, this is a large market for apparel retailers.
