Gloria Jeans & Gee Jay ranks in 'Golden 50' of Russian brands

The first winter issue of Forbes magazine represents 50 Russian brands of products which products exceed 5 billion rubles. All of them were made specially for the market of Russia and classified by retail sales volume for the year from July 2005 to June 2006 (should not be confused with manufacturing companies' turnovers).
Gloria Jeans & Gee Jay is the only representative of the fashion apparel market in this rating. Also, Forbes shows data, e.g. Gloria Jeans & Gee Jay sales for the given period constituted 7.6 billion rubles.
Forbes journalists admit that the company reached the high level of development and can afford the most challenging experiments: “Once Vladimir Melnikov, the owner of the largest clothing production in Russia, has been developing collections himself. Now he can afford to hire a designer from Guess and terminate cooperation with Levi's."
"He can even offer young customers to draw their own prints on t-shirts – as part of the recent event when everyone could suggest one's own sketches.”
The rating included brands created (acquired) by Russian companies, as well as local brands of foreign ones. There are just two representatives of the southern region of Russia among the best-selling Russian brands.
Forbes ratings represent experts and journalists' evaluation of data received from those companies and industry unions.
They also use the financial accounting data from manufacturing companies, various research firms, the Federal State Statistics Service, the Federal Tax Inspection, etc. that are represented in the “Professional Analysis System for markets and companies” of Interfax agency.
Forbes, established in 1917 in the U.S., is one of the leaders in the global market of business editions.
