Seen for the first time at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2000) and then transferred to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (2001), the Giorgio Armani exhibition was subsequently shown at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin (2003), the Royal Academy of Arts Burlington Gardens in London (2004), the Museo Nazionale Romano at Rome's Terme di Diocleziano (2004), at the Mori Arts Centre Gallery in Tokyo (2005), and most recently at the Shanghai Art Museum (2006). The tour will close in the designer's own city at its eighth and final venue, at the Triennale di Milano.

The exhibition, created by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and devoted to the oeuvre of Giorgio Armani, finally reaches the Triennale di Milano in an expanded and enriched version, retracing the career of Giorgio Armani, one of the foremost designers in the world.

“It is a great honour to be the subject of the Triennale's first exhibition dedicated to the work of a single designer and it is very gratifying to see my aesthetic philosophy distilled in this way. Fashion is central to human self expression and perfectly reflects both society and its culture. I have always been committed to an approach that strips fashion of superfluous decorative elements, an approach that helps men and women feel self assured and at ease in clothes that combine style with comfort”, declares Giorgio Armani.

Featuring over 600 outfits, original sketches, audio tracks and video clips the exhibition adopts a thematic perspective on the career of Giorgio Armani and traces the evolution of his work over the last three decades, illustrating his cultural impact and emphasizing his visionary role as a designer in the realm of cinema.
