In the first quarter of 2007, the Hamburg costume jewelry company Bijou Brigitte increased group sales compared to the prior year's period by 8.5 % to EUR 73.8 million (prior year: EUR 68.0 million). Like-for-like this was a slight 3.2 % drop, as had been forecast.
Projection from first quarter 2007 group figures indicates that the group earnings at the company decline somewhat. Based on the estimated value for material consumption (without verification of inventories) the company earned a pre-tax group result of EUR 19.6 million (prior year: EUR 20.8 million) in the first quarter of 2007. The VAT increase in Germany from 16% to 19%, with its earnings reducing impact, also has to be taken into account.
Ten new stores were added to the international sales outlet network in the first quarter of 2007. Thus the weight of nearly 80 new openings falls in the second half of the year.
As a market leader in the fashion jewellery and accessories sector in Europe, the Bijou Brigitte Group operates a network of over 900 branches in Germany and abroad.
