Deb Shops' comparable store sales fall 4.7% in April

Deb Shops Inc reported that comparable store sales decreased 4.7% in April 2007 as compared to April 2006. Total sales decreased 2.0% to $28.7 million from $29.3 million in April 2006. The Company reports financial results on the calendar month.
Therefore, differences in timing will occur when comparing Deb Shops' results to those of retailers reporting on a 4-5-4 calendar. During the month of April 2007, there were four Saturdays compared to five Saturdays in April 2006.
For the quarter ended April 30, 2007, the Company reported a comparable store sales decrease of 0.2%. Total sales for the quarter increased 3.0% to $83.8 million from $81.3 million for the quarter ended April 30, 2006.
