Gianfranco Ferre men's collection for spring/summer 2008

Travelling is a natural attitude. One encounters open spaces that appear to be infinite. Then, upon arrival one surrenders to the new settings... The desire to explore gives way to the pleasure of rediscovered horizons. Because sometimes, although one may have reached a previously unvisited place, one has the uncanny sensation of getting back to one's roots...
My men's collection for Spring/Summer 2008 also happens to be about discovery, evolution and quest. Evolution in terms of forms and a quest for unprecedented configurations rounded and yet impeccably constructed in perfect keeping with the codes involved in my own personal way of "feeling" masculine style.
Because discovering often means rediscovering, getting back to contours and certainties that are essential. By way of very liberally paraphrasing the great Leonardo Sciascia, I'd say that it is precisely these certainties that enable one to distinguish between "uomini, uminicchi e... quaquaraqua..." (different calibers of men).
This journey of re-discovery i have embarked upon is described primarily by the colors in their always slightly alchemical relationship with the materials.
Blue, or more precisely, the nautical blues, those of the pleasure craft. They are shimmering, reflective, technological. They take advantage of the iridescent highlights of silk which is chintz-treated, water-repellant and weatherized. Or laminated cotton.
The black of lava, of sand and stone astonishes us with sparkling highlights. It is applied to linen, voile and bamboo, practically weightless materials.
And practically in the absence of reality, practically in the absence of external demands, it's easy not downright inevitable to grant oneself some relaxation or, even better, some deliciously decadent indolence..."
