Founder of Body Shop cosmetics chain Anita Roddick died recently after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage, sources said. Roddick was 64 years old.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters who were with her when she passed away at a hospital in Chichester, southern England.

Anita began her career in the beauty and retailing sector in 1976 in a shop in Brighton, England. But soon, Roddick carved her own identity by giving importance to ethical properties of her formulations, which she created with natural ingredients sourced from developing world. This Anita did much before the now ubiquitous Dove campaigns.

Thus, Roddick pioneered ethical and environmental beauty decades before it became fashionable, earning the royal title of 'Queen of Green'. In 2003, the Queen made her a dame in recognition of her contributions to the world of beauty.

Today, Body Shop has over 2,000 stores spanning 50 countries; it also became part of the French giant L'Oreal Group in July last year.
