The Shopko Foundation has stepped forward to be the first major, private sponsor of the Green Bay CityDeck, a 1,400 feet (four blocks) boardwalk along the Fox River in downtown Green Bay.
The CityDeck will serve as a gathering place for the community. Plans include a large park alongside restaurants and condominiums. The CityDeck will also include four piers and boat docks highlighting a focal point of the region, the Fox River.
Shopko's sponsorship will provide redevelopment funding for the northern portion of the CityDeck to be named Shopko Landing.
“Shopko is a long-time member of the Green Bay community with a vested interest in supporting the city our customers and employees call home,” said Michael R. MacDonald, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shopko.
“We are delighted to assist the city in bringing to life this previously untapped riverfront asset. We hope Shopko Landing will become a popular gathering place for Green Bay citizens and visitors throughout the year.”
“Shopko's financial support of this project exemplifies the continuing commitment that Shopko has had for keeping the City of Green Bay the quality community it is,” said Green Bay Mayor, Jim Schmitt. “We are tremendously grateful for their investment in our downtown's future.”
Shopko Landing will serve as an entertainment venue and scenic stop for pedestrians.
