Superior Galleries Estate Jewelry & Timepiece Auction results

DGSE Companies Inc announced its results for Superior Galleries Estate Jewelry and Timepiece Auction Sale held on December 1st and 2nd, 2007 in Beverly Hills, CA.
The 800 lot sale realized $580,208 inclusive of the buyer's premium, and was highlighted by several items of Russian origins. Lot 436, an Imperial Russian Samorodok 14KT Jeweled Frame, estimated $3,700-4,500, brought a stunning $31,070 to a private collector. Of equal note, lot 392, an Imperial Russian Gold Samorodok Box c. 1900, estimated $1,500-1,800, brought $9,858.75.
The auction's cover lot was lot 452, an original “Rat Pack” 18 karat cigarette case owned by Frank Sinatra. The interior is inscribed, "Frank, We Adore You, Betty and Bogie, Chester and Swifty, Gloria and Michael, Hjordis and David, Judy and Sid. June, 1955."
This cigarette case was given as a gift to Frank Sinatra from "The Holmby Hills Rat Pack" what is also referred to as "The Original Rat Pack." The names engraved represent Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Van Heusen, Gloria and Michael Romanoff, Hjordis and David Niven, Judy Garland and Sidney Luft. It was this group of people whom as Legend has it Lauren Bacall dubbed "The Rat Pack." This item realized $16,132.50 in spirited bidding.
