Southern/Eastern Europe or the Far East? This is a question posed over and over again, and ever more frequently, when it comes to finding both attractively priced and rapidly sourced fashion.

The answer to the question is given by both the different source regions and the individual requirements of the sourcing companies. For this reason, many buyers from the clothing industry and large format retail see the answer as both.

Companies from Eastern and Southern Europe (including the neighbouring Mediterranean area in general) as well as from the Far East are presented at the Global Fashion special fair held in Hall 4 of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre from 10 to 12 February 2008.

With 400 exhibitors from 13 nations this fair offers sourcing managers in the clothing industry and trade that global range of nations, companies, product segments and genres which is so vital in business. The ranges focus on collections for the 2008/2009 Autumn/Winter season. However, fashionable Summer 2008 ranges for immediate order are also offered here by numerous suppliers.

This special event for contracting, sourcing and private label production organised as part of the Igedo Fashion Fairs Düsseldorf in parallel with CPD Düsseldorf, HMD Düsseldorf and Body Look has several special highlights in store this time – both in terms of the supporting programme and exhibitor ranges.

For instance, 8 clothing suppliers from the Ukraine will be presenting their skills on a joint stand here in the fashion metropolis on the Rhine. Hailing from western and central Ukraine these mainly small and medium-sized, privatised firms – FZ Light Industry, Kozak, Luga, Mukachewo Nähfabrik, Shveya, Uzhgorod Nähfabrik, Weise-Style and Zolotonosha Sewing Factory – are all experienced contracting partners for customers in western, central and northern Europe already.

These firms predominantly offer complete production of women's and children's clothing as well as men's trousers and T-shirts. Everything is manufactured on modern equipment. Using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) suppliers from the Ukraine can also score points with existing and potential customers with their proximity to sales markets, which helps to considerably reduce times to market – an aspect of ever-increasing importance in the modern fashion business.

Interesting market proximity to Western Europe with rapid sourcing potential is also offered by exhibitors from Latvia, Egypt and Bulgaria. Since Bulgaria's accession to the EU last year its clothing industry has undergone an upswing. The country quickly made a name for itself as a flexible and attractively priced sourcing region for production.

Egypt is promoting itself at Global Fashion as an important future supplier country – for instance with hosiery, nightwear and underwear producer Chourbagi Moderne for Clothing & Textiles.

Foreign investment in production sites and staff expertise over the past few years has also particularly contributed to the nation on the Nile now increasingly producing quality ready-to-wear garments in addition to its high-quality Egyptian cotton.
