Payless ShoeSource unveils Fall '09 designer collection at NYFW

Nothing is better than unique, one-of-a-kind designer runway looks at a great price, especially in today's economic climate. Payless, well-known for its unstoppable prices, and the retailer's Guest Designers -- Laura Poretzky, Lela Rose, Stacey Bendet, and newcomer Christian Siriano -- will unveil the Payless Fall '09 Designer Collections in true "high-low" fashion on the runway at New York Fashion Week beginning tomorrow.

Payless Fall '09 designer footwear and handbag collections will hit stores in the fall. In the meantime, shoppers seeking to refresh their spring wardrobes can scoop up the Spring '09 designer labels from Payless including Abaete for Payless, Lela Rose for Payless and alice + olivia for Payless currently available in select Payless stores nationwide and Payless.com, for, on average, under $45 an item.

"We are thrilled to return to New York Fashion Week with Laura Poretzky, Lela Rose, and Stacey Bendet and to unveil Christian Siriano's first-ever shoe collection as our newest Guest Designer," said LuAnn Via, CEO and president of Payless ShoeSource.

"The nation's premier fashion event is a phenomenal stage to showcase the talent and unique design aesthetic of each of our designer partners. This season presents a range of inspirations from the Egyptian landscape to the enchanted forest -- the unique designs from each are truly amazing, and we are excited to see the Payless product paired with the designer's ready-to-wear on the runway.

Unveiled at the Abaete runway show tomorrow and mirroring her inspirations for the Fall '09 ready-to-wear (RTW) line, Laura Poretzky's 13th collection for Payless was inspired by Les Incroyables, a fashionable subculture of post- revolutionary French society. The dandies of the time, Les Incroyables dressed extravagantly in bold jackets, tailored vests, and oversize neckties.

For her footwear line, Poretzky has reinterpreted the traditional riding boot (a mainstay of Les Icroyables) as a slouchier, fold-over boot with a high heel. Chain detailing -- seen through the RTW collection hanging from pants and jackets -- is also included in several of the Abaete for Payless styles.

On the runway this Sunday, the Fall '09 Lela Rose RTW collection is inspired by the notion of an enchanted forest and all its magical creatures. A kaleidoscope of colors that includes punchy magenta and bold chartreuse brings to mind the vivid hues of a butterfly or the petals of a wildflower. The Fall '09 Lela Rose for Payless line will be Rose's 9th collection for the retailer.

Nine shoe styles will hit the runway featuring fabric uppers of multi-color tweed and "knot-less" bow accents inspired by the insect wing imagery in Rose's RTW. Several styles also feature intricate cut-outs and straps that appear to "cage" the foot -- a nod to her concept of an insect's exoskeleton.
