Footwear Co Brantano's operating result up 5.6% in Q3

Dynamic shoe retailer BRANTANO GROUP announced the results for the first nine months of 2005.
During the first nine months of 2005 the Brantano Group achieved an operating profit of € 16.4 million and an operating cash flow of € 23.1 million. The post-tax result on continued activities is up by 9.9 percent to € 9.6 million.
The post-tax net result improved by 14.5 percent to € 6.4 million. In the third quarter the operating result rose by 5.6 percent, the pre-tax result on continued activities by 18.6 percent and the net post-tax result by 36.4 percent.
Brantano Group's consolidated turnover for the first nine months of 2005 totalled € 224.7 million. This represents negative growth of 0.3% compared with the comparable turnover (excluding the Netherlands and Denmark) for the same period in 2004. Turnover rose by 0.7% without taking account of exchange rate effects. Turnover in the third quarter amounted to € 78.9 million.
The gross margin for the first three quarters of 2005 was € 113.8 million and amounts to 50.7 percent of the total turnover. In the same period of 2004, the gross margin was € 119.6 million or 49.2 percent of total turnover.
In the third quarter of 2005 the gross margin was equal to € 40.4 million (51.3% of turnover), which results in a rise of 1.3 percentage points compared with 2004 (€ 43.5 million or 50.0% of turnover).
A good collection combined with continued attention to the margin during the purchasing process and stock management explains this strong improvement in margin.
