Martyn R. Shorten, Ph.D founder and managing partner of BioMechanica LLC will be the keynote speaker for the upcoming Busan International Footwear and Leather Show (BIFOS) 2005.
BIFOS, ASIA's No. 1 shoe show, is being held in Busan (Pusan), Korea from December 2 - 4.
Shorten will present his lecture, "Running Shoe Performance - Fact and Fiction," at 3 p.m. on the opening day of the Show.
Shorten is an internationally renowned biomechanist, award-winning researcher and prolific inventor.
His numerous patented inventions form the basis of an array of footwear, protective equipment and surfacing.
He founded BioMechanica in 1993 to further pursue his passion to use science and technology as tools for developing new and innovative products.
In the six years prior to establishing BioMechanica, Shorten managed a consulting business and worked with leading athletic footwear and sports surface manufacturers.
During his 20-year career, Shorten was also the director of the Nike, Inc. Sport Research Laboratory, and the director of global research design and product development for Puma AG.
Shorten is also a distinguished author and invited speaker on topics related to the biomechanics of human performance and injury, and their links to athletic footwear and sports surface design.
He holds a doctorate in biomechanics from Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom.
