Short-term courses launched at NIFT in Haryana

Indian textiles minister Smriti Irani recently launched five short-term courses at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula, Haryana, through videoconference from New Delhi. The permanent campus of the institute, run now from the Polytechnic-cum-Multi Skill Training Centre there, is under construction and will be completed by June next year.

The campus is being set up with the support of Haryana state department of technical education, according to an official release.

The proposed one-year certificate programmes are in fashion clothing and technology, design development for Indian ethnic wear, fashion and media communication, textile for interiors and fashion, fashion knitwear production and technology, and fashion clothing and technology.

The programme is specially designed for professionals in fashion, apparel design, construction and technology. It focuses on dressmaking, value addition, pattern making and surface techniques for Indian ethnic wear. It aims to develop entrepreneurial skills for fashion, bridal market and designer market.

The total numbers of students proposed in each programme will be 30. (DS)
