Texbrasil brings buyers from Egypt to Brazil for the first time
July 04, 2009 (Brazil)

Although Egypt is an important buyer of Brazilian textile articles, it is still not very representative in Brazilian apparel exports. In order to also stimulate sales of this category of domestic products in the country, which operates today as a gateway to northern Africa, a market with great potential for the Brazilian textile and apparel industry, Texbrasil, an export support Program developed by the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), brought Egyptian buyers to Brazil for the very first time.

The professionals, Hesham Ibrahim Ouf and Hala Riad ElGendy, from Ego, stayed in the city of São Paulo and until the conclusion of São Paulo Fashion Week. Besides watching fashion shows, the buyers also participated in Texbrasil lectures and got to know city’s main fashion showrooms, including Clube de Estilo, Galeria, Conceito, Casa Moda, Maria Eugênia and Contemporâneo.

Texbrasil brought a total of 21 international buyers. They are representatives of countries like Germany, France, United States, Egypt and Spain.

“It is extremely important for these buyers to come here for us to understand Egyptian, and most especially North African consumption, where it functions like a gateway. This action is part of a series of activities Texbrasil has planned for the 2nd semester of this year with the objective of promoting domestic textile industry exports to the region,” explains Rafael Cervone Netto, executive director of the Texbrasil Program.
