The Indian government should offer industry status to the fashion sector, while supporting corporate and fashion designers, in order to create a cycle of wealth, which will finally benefit the country. The government should also make sure that this wealth is shared equally among all stakeholders, rather than a big chunk going to just designers.

This was told to a media agency by renowned Indian fashion designer Prasad Bidapa at a fashion conclave organised by the Phoneix Market City mall.

"For long, we have been tailors to the world, but we now have to become designers to the world. This will come about which is short time away," the designer added.

He also requested the government to promote 'Made in India' concept for Indian apparel brands in the international markets. (AR)
