Texworld to make young designers vital part of strategy

Texworld also has designers and young labels in its sights. Mael Larcher wins the Grand Prix for Menswear Design at the 21st Dinard international festival of young fashion designers and Marie-Morgane Dumont is awarded a special incentive prize by Messe Frankfurt France.

The show has supported young designers in engaging Louis Gérin and Grégory Lamaud, young talented graduates from the Esmod school at the time, as artistic directors. Michael Scherpe has confidence in youth. And naturally he then decided to sponsor the Dinard festival for young fashion designers and the Podium Jeunes Stylistes competition.

With Esmod as partner, the exhibition organises the Designer&Fashion Service, a matchmaking service to put young designers, pattern-makers and marketeers in touch with companies that attend our shows in search of talented young people.

Aware of the specific demands of young designers and labels, Texworld’s organisers have developed the Small Order Itinerary, a tool that lists around a hundred exhibitors who will accept small-volume orders from 50-200m. Designers, especially those based in Paris, value this offer and attend Texworld regularly in large numbers.

The couturier Christophe Josse, Christophe Guillarmé, Christine Phung, Irakli, Marc Antoine Barrois and Hanno Wessel are among those who buy at the show and have products developed.

Jérôme Lhuillier, totally convinced, tells us: “Over the past few seasons, Texworld has become more accessible to designers like us who are interested in smaller quantities. A circuit and floor space are dedicated to make it easier to meet these suppliers.”

The festival, in its 21st year, was held from the 11th to 13th April and welcomed a large number of professionals from the world of fashion and textiles. The jury, made up of professionals from fashion and the press and presided over by Ece EGE, director at the Dice Kayek label, awarded Maël Larcher with the Grand Prix for Menswear Design, which was sponsored by Texworld.

His streetwear collection, monochrome and characterised by an infinite palette of black and by skirted silhouettes, won the jury over. It will be shown at Texworld next September, when the designer will be able to meet professionals from the industry, weavers and third-party manufacturers and learn more about the initial stages in fashion production. And to establish contacts! The collections from the four finalists for men’s fashion rival each other in boldness and creativity.

Impressed by the Marie-Morgane Dumont’s collection and her work based on natural materials, Messe Frankfurt France decided to award a special sustainability incentive prize of 3000 euros and to invite Marie-Morgane Dumont to present her work at the next Texworld Paris exhibition alongside the winner of the men’s grand prix.
