The line literally walks down the ramp with the entire Ritu Kumar repertoire which is both rich and diverse in its rendering of styles and shapes which encompass various moods. The strength of the line is the recreation of the textile crafts for which the brand is known along with the stylized contemporary idiom of the Label line which achieves a synthesis between the company’s print handwriting and a modern silhouette.

The show is divided into five themes each with an ethos of its own. The show opens with a Label Ritu Kumar collection.

The opening sequence by Label Ritu Kumar presents Art Deco in a contemporary design language and context. Using the motifs and moods of the era, the pieces are crafted to offer a modern representation. Dropped waists, bold forms and delicate embroideries are juxtaposed with modern techniques and shaping. The collection is very graphic. Fabrics are predominantly silks in chiffon, crepe and twill. The mood is svelte eveningwear and embellishments exude themes and inspirations from architecture. Blazing colors, rich deep inks, bold and elegant lines made possible by treatments like serigraphy and lithography spell glamour, romanticism and wit.

As the show moves down the ramp, one is presented with a collection of whites inspired from India’s most perennial aesthetic of gossamer jaalis and layered light patterns. The cocktail line is one which has a thematic black representation with metallic effects which range between gold, silver, copper and create a dramatic magic in their presentation which is a blend of western and Indian ensembles.

The baroque element is recreated with a vintage line which is accompanied with music reminiscent of the middle of the last century inspired by bollywood hits of the time. The theme is paisleys and florals, done with net accents, both retro and sensuous in its look and feel.

The collection then culminates with the Ritu Kumar couture collection. The interpretation of the theme uses expert workmanship of the atelier. It carries forward the vintage mood of the previous segment but in its Indian avatar. The bridal line taking the finale to its finish recreates a historical era of royal houses and traditional ethos which spans the influences of Indian heritage textiles down the ages, amalgamates them as well as gives them a contemporary look.

The distinctive element of the show is the showcasing of the wide range of the Ritu Kumar brand at one event not seen in Bangalore till date.
