Fashion designer counts on youth to lead fashion industry
August 15, 2008 (Lebanon)

When it comes to counting names of designers who have brought freshness and innovation in Lebanese fashion industry, the name of Rabih Kayrouz flashes comes at the top. After graduating from Paris, he presented his Maison Rabih Kayrouz collection in 2004 and as it is said, the rest is history.

However, Rabih had to struggle a lot in order to prove his caliber and carve a stylish niche for himself. His firm belief in his understanding of fashion and a desire to breathe new life in the traditional mode of designing has been a source of inspiration for many aspiring designers.

In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Rabih Kayrouz stated,” I strongly believe in young blood and as a result I have selected four graduates who are getting complete guidance in not only creating collections but also on how to develop the business plan as it is extremely important for building the brand in future.”

After the selection process that took place for more than two weeks, where many designers presented their creations, the designs of Missak Hajiavedikian, Lara Khoury, Krikor Jabotian and Rami Kadi appealed the most to the creative instinct of Rabih.

An opulent fashion show will be organized on August 16 at the Mzaar Intercontinental where these upcoming designers will showcase their collection that comprises of 12 garments each along with stylish shoes, fashionable accessories.

The four graduates have taken different source of inspiration for their unique and exuberant designs. Hajiavedikian has drawn inspiration from his Armenian painter Arshile Gorky.

Flexibility is the key to Khoury's evening dresses collection, on the other hand Jabotian has managed to strike a perfect balance between the practical and artistic nature of garment.

This is a long term plan, where after every six months fresh designers will be selected and launched by Rabih for taking the fashion industry of the nation to a pinnacle.

With the help of Solidere, the Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut Central District, Rabih has managed to provide a boutique in downtown Beirut that will constantly showcase and rotate creations of young designers for a period of six months.

Kayrouz hopes that emerging talented artists of various disciplines will be able to utilize this boutique for gaining large number of fashion appreciators.

The fashion sector of Lebanon has become vibrant from the year 2000 as many new and talented designers have given a different perspective to fashion. The presence of international brands and fashion houses has also played a vital role in bringing a change in the mind of domestic buyers.

Many fashion institutes have also come up in the country that have given a chance to many a aspiring designer, to make it big in one among the most exciting and flourishing industry in the world.
