The Paris-based fashion designer Jonathan Liang presented his fall/winter 2013 ‘Your Body is a Machine’collection on the second day of the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) Ready To Wear (RTW) 2013.

The Penang, Malaysia-born designer has won several awards, including the Emerging Talent Award in 2011 at the Malaysia International Fashion Week. His latest collection had strong feminine feel with clean and clutter-free aesthetics.

The dramatic collection was inspired by angels, nuns wear and innerwear, and each design embodied a character of the Middle Ages. There were several contrasts in Liang’s collection that was light as well as heavy, and whimsical while being dramatic. There was also a reptile-like Aurelia jacket and dresses with darker fall/winter shades with metallic contrasts.

Earlier on day 1, more than ten designers, including Jimmy Lim, Yadotsa, Jasmi Rejab and PU3, presented their stark and edgy RTW collections. Veteran designer Datuk Tom Abang Saufi showed her bohemian collection that had a liberal dose of orange and yellow hues. Silas Liew’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection had chic dresses, slouchy suits and uni-dimensional looks.

For the first time, Syomir Izwa used coral, turquoise and lavender pastels in his collection, along with basics of white, grey and black. His ‘Summer at East Hamptons’ collection was based on rayon and cotton that was stylish and yet practical for tropical weather.

A particular attraction was the creations of four young designers—Ezzati Amira, Tsyahmi, Allien Gan and Pearly Wong—presented by Sara Bella Baring, as part of a KLFW Fashion Designers Initiative.
