Customs impound fake footwear consignment

Officials at the Customs Monitoring unit at the Malta Freeport, seized six containers filled with 134,000 pairs of shoes of which 60,000 pairs were Nike sport shoes, 62,000 pairs of Nike sandals and 12,000 pairs of Adidas sport shoes.
Search operation was carried out for suspicious containers which were being shipped from Far East to other countries through Malta.
Suspecting the contents of the containers, customs authorities ordered the opening of such containers and seized the contraband.
Committed Customs employees were able to detect counterfeit goods on a regular basis, said the Department.
Part of the illicit money is being used to finance international terrorism, as certain preliminary indications suggest, informed Customs Department.
