Lakmé Fashion Week, India's premier Fashion and Trade event, continues to leave its mark in its fourteenth season, enthralling audiences and buyers globally with its eminent designer collections showcasing outstanding creativity. As a pioneer and leader in providing a powerful trade platform to designers, Lakmé Fashion Week announced new initiatives that propel designers and buyers to engage in business conversations and plan commerce.

This season, as a groundbreaking initiative, IMG Reliance, HUL and the AEPC: Apparel Export Promotion Council India signed a letter of intent to form a partnership that will encourage fashion designers to explore scale and create links to mass production, state-of-art manufacturing facilities and technological support mechanisms. This landmark meet saw senior designers such as Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Wendell Rodricks, Narendra Kumar, Krsna Mehta along with over 60 designers come together to support this initiative for the Indian Fashion Industry.

'The Source', the business hub at Lakmé Fashion Week, had over a 100 stalls for buyers to view designer collections and goods. Also this season, saw over 30 designers tying up with online retail partner, Fashion & You. Exhibiting designers had the opportunity to showcase their designs in a second preview show area located directly in 'The Source' area at Talent Box: Preview shows. In line with international fashion weeks, and for the first time in India and LFW history, this initiative was a huge success. Thus, Lakmé Fashion Week showed great benefit for both domestic and international buyers and provided them a single platform to purchase from all exhibiting designers.

While talking about their experience this season, first time participating designer Pallavi Goenka said, “This was the first time that I was participating at Lakmé Fashion Week and I have received an overwhelming response for my collection. I have some great orders from international and domestic buyers as well and most of them have been outright orders. My collections will be out in the stores by mid-September to Mid October as the Winter-Festive season begins in India.”

“This fashion week, we have done business with Sabyasachi, Nachiket Barve, Payal Singhal, Babita Malkani, Mayank Anand, Shradha Nigam, Pallavi Goenka, Manjaree Jindal, Arjun Agarwal and Nishka Lulla. The approximate number of goods bought depends on designer to designer, usually between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 10 lakh per designer “, said Falguni Zaveri, owner of Fuel.

Pria Kataaria Puri said, “This season I targeted the rebellious quotient of the younger generation across the globe by experimenting with elegant designs. LFW is a great platform for us to showcase our creativity and talent, network and approach buyers across the globe. I shuffle between three countries and India is an important market. I definitely see an increase in demand and inquiries this season.”

“This season my collection was all about breaking rules and going over the top, with modernity and structure. Similarly, LFW also broke all my previous records in terms of business with a significant increase in footfalls, inquiries & orders by buyers. Not only across India but also efforts taken by AEPC gave us a platform to network and approach international buyers. To sum it up, LFW Winter festive 2011 was a grand success & I am already looking forward to more business next season”, said Swapnil Shinde
