The latest fashion and merchandising designs for iconic Australian fashion retailers have been showcased through RMIT University's Young Essentials Project (YEP) at a gala launch.
Now in its 12th year, YEP gives RMIT Associate Degree in Fashion and Textiles Merchandising students the chance to create amazing designs by working to a commercial brief for some of the nation's top fashion retailers.
This year, international retailer Spotlight has joined Country Road, Sportsgirl and Target as YEP industry partners.
YEP winners for each retailer often go on to have their capsule collections produced and sold in store.
Winners for the Young Essentials Project 2011 are: COUNTRY ROAD – “Manus” by Ebony Hui, Amanda Lenhart, Zoe Balakis, Joseph Leone, Vanessa Wong, Scarlet Sawyer, Jarrod Smith, Ryan Jeong
SPOTLIGHT – “Hatch” by Rima El-Bay, Jordana-Lee Pearce, Rachel Alfonsi, Francesca Gelai, Cheyney Heron, Alicia Chan
SPORTSGIRL – “Sun Dance” by Laura Commadeur, Abby Uren, Tiffany Charles, Bethany Sexton, Jordan Serpell, Rachael Blyth
Spotlight Senior buyer, Sew Centre, Tim Hanrahan said: “We have been blown away by the standard of work produced.”
“The heart, soul and originality that went into each project was unbelievable. The winning group will definitely see their work transformed from concept to a reality and sold in Spotlight stores,” Mr Hanrahan said.
YEP Manager Robyn Lyons said YEP gave student a chance to work closely and connect with key industry figures in fashion and retail.
“We're delighted to be working with such iconic Australian fashion brands and to have Spotlight partner in this exciting work based project,” Ms Lyons said.
The Associate Degree in Fashion and Textiles Merchandising is offered by the School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT's Brunswick campus.
