Jelstrup's artwork inspires Sunhee for F/W collection

Entering its eleventh season, Italian wine company, Ecco Domani, has announced Sunhee Hwang as one of the 2012 Fashion Foundation award winners in the women's design category.
Sunhee will receive a $25,000 grant to help showcase her self titled collection for her upcoming Fall 2012 runway show during New York Fashion Week.
The distinguished judges of the 2012 women's wear category were Marylou Luther, editor at International Fashion Syndicate; Sally Singer, Editor-in-Chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine; Kim Hastreiter, Editor-in-Chief of Paper Magazine; Julie Gilhart, Fashion Consultant and former Senior Vice President of Fashion Merchandising at Barneys; Ruth Finley, Publisher of The Fashion Calendar; Nicole Fischelis, Vice President and Women's Fashion Director at Macy's; and Ken Downing, Senior Vice President and Fashion Director at Neiman Marcus.
For her Fall/ Winter 2012 Collection, Sunhee was deeply inspired by Dorte Jelstrup's artwork, specifically the video, “You Are So Distant. (It would have been wonderful to dance with you,” which garners a deep feeling of desire and yearning between light and space. Unlike her Spring collection, her Fall collection will consist of primarily structured pieces using knits with incorporations of washed silk, wool and stretch suede leather, all trying to capture the feeling of the Bauhaus and Constructivism. Sunhee's color palette remains on a more neutral side with colors ranging from ivory and grey to taupe and camel.
Throughout Sunhee's collection, the pieces specifically target her consumer as the upbeat and trendy woman on the go.
Sunhee's Fall 2012 show is scheduled for Tuesday February 14th at Exit Art. The runway show is by invitation only and set to begin at 5pm.
Sunhee Hwang is a woman's contemporary designer in her 2nd season. After a successful career being recruited directly by Alber Elbaz for Geoffrey Beene and then working her way up to the senior designer position at Anne Klein and Elie Tahari, Sunhee has already graced the pages of WWD and has been sold in Barney's New York. She is a 2012 winner of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award and was also a recipient of the highly prestigious American Designer Critic Award.
