Simone Rocha's A/W12 collection continues her study of masculine strength and modern femininity.
Setting out from images of feral tribes of Papua New Guinea and Dublin city children of the 1930's – she examines a particular vision of a New and Old Ireland – boys and girls – wild and refined.
Using texture and new techniques to craft unexpected surfaces in densely tufted wools on PVC, crochet yarns worked into poplin or leather – and new fabrications in lace lined Melton and Linton tweed encased in tulle, guipure and corded lace, wild mohair, mirror leathers and spotty print hides.
Simone's AW12 silhouette is fresh and essentially strong. A new volume in tailoring – outerwear boyishly oversized, counters the seemingly simple considered detail of beautiful winter dresses, tops and skirts, and cloudy knits.
The colour is a palette of milk white and cream, mackerel grey, mirror leather and black pony – and one shot of moss.
The girls sport Connemara forelocks, yarn woven jockey caps and crochet trimmed clutches and Simone's beautiful Perspex stack brogues and pumps.
