Russian fashion guru celebrates fifty years in industry

Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Zaitsev, more commonly known as Slava Zaitsev, said to be the Patriarch of Russian fashion, has completed half a century in the fashion industry.

The legendary designer is celebrating the occasion with an exhibition aptly titled “Fifty Years in Fashion”, currently going on in St. Petersburg.

The retrospective exhibition showcasing the fashion guru's theatre costumes to fashion collections will go on till April 15, 2012.

The exhibition has black and white documentary photographs, costumes and video recordings of fashion shows over the years. All of these have a detailed commentary notes written by Slava Zaitsev himself.

In addition, there are 50 selected pieces on display, which correspond to the fashion designer's 50 glorious years in the industry.

Zaitsev is credited with creating the first fashion house in the Soviet Union. He has been acclaimed internationally for his ultra-feminine creations with a pint of revolutionary flair.

He was awarded the title of “Honorary citizen of Paris”, the world's fashion capital, by French Premier Jacques Chirac.
