With 'O Solo Mio' Krishna raises the bar of the Lakme show

It was a magnificent fashionable mix of craftsmanship, style and elegance that came together in perfect harmony for Krishna Mehta's collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012. The fine detailing of the lean sophisticated garments, the skilful construction along with the rich brocades and cotton cutwork, worked magic on the catwalk.
The unique home grown dyeing and printing techniques by Krishna and the use of colour gave the serene kurtas, tunics, jackets, boleros, blouses, saris and shararas a distinct fashion statement.
Krishna gradually built the tempo of the show by starting with a grey cutwork appliqué jacket with a luxurious ecru long skirt. Soon the colour story moved into the black and white zone with the one shoulder long sleeve tunic with gold embroidery, followed by a self designed cover, lacy boleros, hemlines edged with magnificent cutwork, lean tubes and column dresses all with churi sleeves.
A layered one sleeve maxi was resplendent with the rose embroidery which was the constant factor throughout the collection. Gradually bringing in colour, Krishna added a few sprays of red blossoms on skirt hems; then went bolder with a white panelled kalidaar kurta with red embroidered wide border teamed with double layered churidars.
As the music reached the crescendo with the song “O Solo Mio” Krishna raised the bar of the show with a finale featuring the duo of red cutwork blouse and asymmetric coat, followed by shades of mango for a tube with white embroidery and lacy jacket. Saris appeared with tangerine, black and red lavishly embellished on the borders and worn with fully sequinned cholis.
The show ended with a black cutwork blouse and dramatic full circular layered sheer skirt. With exquisite embroidery which was restricted to the rose motif except in one solitary tube where red inverted tulips rose gradually to the hips; the craftsmanship and finish of the magnificent line of formal ensembles which were outstanding in all respects.
It was an amazing beautifully controlled collection from Krishna Mehta which will appeal to connoisseurs of fashion.
