Shashank Raj & Prajwal Badwe brought to the ramp at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 an interesting collection called “Metropolitan Jungle” inspired by the speed and chaos of contemporary city life. Presenting innovative forms, the duo worked around blotting art and paper cut-out techniques and brought them skilfully onto apparel to create amazing 3D effects.
Playing with the colour combo of black and white on organza, net and chiffon, the 3D felt cut-outs came alive to highlight the theme of the collection. There was a clever play of sheer with the opaque fabrics along with prints that were visible from within. Sharp angular cuts edged in black gave a finishing touch to the creations while the various construction techniques like vertical swinging flaps, grouped 3D pleats, and intricate cutwork were additions that highlighted the theme of the show.
The well crafted black bustier dress, the dainty cutwork bolero, the crimpled and rouched printed sheer maxi with an elaborate bodice and the vibrantly printed sheer gown were unconventional additions. The finale was reserved for the black cutwork gown which was regal in its stark beauty.
