Silk fashion show to commemorate 100 years of Bihar

To commemorate 100 years of Bihar state in India, the Bihar State Small Industries Corp Ltd and Eco Tasar Silk Pvt. Ltd., an organization working on tassar silk, will be organizing a fashion show named "Silks of Bihar".
The show to be held on April 1, 2012, at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi would showcase collection of Eco Tasar Silk Pvt Ltd, which would be a blend of traditional as well as contemporary silk weaving.
Ambapali, the Bihar emporium in New Delhi, has brought in skilled artisans from Bihar, who will be showcasing their creations at the show.
Designs of Arun Tiwari and Samant Chauhan, both Bihar-born designers, would also form a part of collections of Ambapali, which is a unit of Bihar State Small Industries Corporation Ltd.
While Arun would present a collection drawing inspiration from peepal leaves, Samant, a designer widely-known in the fashion industry for promoting Khadi silk, would showcase designs signifying the influence of Victorian styles on Royal Rajasthani Gharana.
Mr. Khitish Pandya, Managing Director of Eco Tasar, said through the fashion event, his organization aims to promote tassar silk and traditional weaving techniques, for which Bihar is famous.
A lot of tassar silk is woven in the state, which is recognized for its ancient and revered handloom weaving hubs of Nalanda, Bhagalpur and Bihar Sharif, he said.
Further, as he shared that Eco Tasar is operational in Bihar since 2000, he expressed gratitude towards the local artisans who have helped them to uphold the state's spirit of silk tradition.
