Ethical Fashion Show asserts place on European calendar
Mar '12
After the launch of the Berlin première last January, the Ethical Fashion Show is asserting its place on the European fashion calendar with a new March rendezvous, for winter buying.

The good location, duration of 3 days, a select range of products and good organization made this première a success. The chosen format for the exhibition, which took place this
March from the 2nd to the 4th at the Espace Pierre Cardin, was a large and welcoming showroom for presenting the collections from 25 international labels from the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the United States, India, Peru, Tanzania and France. France was well-represented with 14 labels for ready-to-wear and accessories.

The Ethical Fashion Show offered a select variety of products for its launch onto the Paris fashion week circuit. The products exhibited appealed to visitors such as Naïda Winsall, a consultant for Solutions Mode – Paris: “I have been following the exhibition for a while. This new organization, which is more all-encompassing, is practical for professionals. I have noticed that the products on offer are very imaginative and that they have improved in quality”.

Leonardo Memmi, a buyer for ready-to-wear and accessories from ethical designers at A-Mano in Turin, Italy, confirms this too: “This new organization appealed to us. We are waiting for the follow-on as the range of products in Paris is more varied than in other places and we feel that the Ethical Fashion Show is shaping up its offer.”

The Trunk Show, the meeting on Saturday evening, saw almost 250 people attend (buyers, the press and professionals from the sector). Exhibitors have professed their satisfaction with this pleasant and relaxing evening that allowed them time for networking and to promote their labels. They are also delighted with the good press coverage given to the show. It is true that the exhibition always enjoys a wide audience among the national and international press. This year, almost 180 press passes were registered.

Ethical brands combine commitment and creativity as demonstrated by lovely collections where exquisite materials, skills, style and innovation were showcased.

> The exquisite materials (alpaca, cashmere, mohair and silk) were one of the strong points in the winter collections. The French brand Lola Bon'heur offered hand-knitted jumpers and accessories made of mohair or a mohair-silk blend (very soft and lightweight). The combined knitwear collection from Andes Made and the very feminine collection from Killa focused on very high-quality alpaca that is entirely hand-knitted.
Saranguerel's 100% cashmere in luminous colours attracted huge interest from visitors.

> When it comes to expertise, Neelgar and Sohamdave have both opted for the centuries-old technique of bandhini, the Indian version of Japanese shibori: a method of dyeing which consists of knotting material many times over in order to create effects of colour and volume. If Neelgard only used it in their collection of scarves in hand-rolled silk, Sohamdave has incorporated it perfectly into their collection of dresses, tops and skirts to achieve a remarkable effect.
