“We take inspiration from wherever we visit or whatever we come across. Our collections are influenced by various cultures from across the globe. I am yet to come across a revamped look of the Indian sari, but still hope to do so in the future”, said Angela Missoni from Italian fashion house – Missoni.

Recently the diva of fashion, renowned the world over for her inimitable Italian flair, was in India to attend the 14th meeting of the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI) hosted by Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) in Jaipur.

While Missoni is yet to establish retail presence in India, the bold and distinct designs the house of Missoni is renowned for, is constantly present on the red carpet and other significant events across India.

Angela Missoni's presence at the conference gave a tremendous boost to students and faculty of PAF, as her spirit to share and nurture has been the source of inspiration to scores of designers in Europe and beyond.

The Missoni brand, which is managed by the Missoni family, was set up way back in 1953. The third generation of Missoni's too has now entered the fashion house.

Speaking exclusively to fibre2fashion, Angela Missoni when quizzed about the efforts that went into making Missoni a globally renowned brand proudly said, “In a fashion show organised in 1972, there were just 150 buyers from across Europe.

“But today there are around 2,000 from across many global countries, with more standing outside the door. This indicates the popularity of the Missoni brand. Thankfully, our brand is now bigger than our business. A lot of effort and sweat has been put in to making the brand a success”.

“We take inspiration from wherever we visit or whatever we come across. Our collections are influenced by various cultures from across the globe. I am yet to come across a revamped look of the Indian sari, but still hope to do so in the future”, she said, when asked if she planned to take inspiration from Indian culture.

Explaining the attributes needed to be a fashion designer, she informed, “A designer needs to have a 360 degree vision of the world around him or her, see things the way in which others do not see, aesthetics, etc, to be a successful fashion designer”.

Angela plans to teach students at the Mecca among fashion designing institutes – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano (NABA) located in Milan - Italy from next summer. Though she has no prior teaching experience, she hopes to share her experiences with students of NABA.

She says she is always open to providing internships to fashion designing students from all over the world at her designing studio and workshop. When quizzed about plans to enter the growing Indian market, she replied by saying that there were no immediate plans.
