The Marimekko Spring/Summer 2013 clothing collection, themed “Art of Print Making – Color for a Reason”, led by Head of Fashion Design Noora Niinikoski will be presented to the media and industry professionals at Highline Stages in the Meatpacking District in New York.
In addition to Marimekko teams in Finland and the US, the creative team behind the show headed by Ms. Niinikoski also includes Finnish artist Tuomas Aleksander Laitinen and musician Matti Ahopelto.
“Marimekko’s unique approach to the world of fashion and design is brought to life by our fantastic designers who have a close relationship with the history of Marimekko and boldly bring their own personal voice and view of the world through their unconventional handwriting travelling in the boundary between art and design.
“I think the world has never enough colors, and with our prints we can bring a fun twist to our everyday lives. I am extremely excited to bring the positive Marimekko vibes to New York Fashion Week”, says Noora Niinikoski, Head of Fashion Design of Marimekko.
“We want to bring the Marimekko design stemming from bold colors and patterns to the top of the fashion world, and as part of this objective we will present our Spring/Summer 2013 collection in New York Fashion Week as continuation of our presentation in conjunction with Tokyo Fashion Week last year.
“With our show in New York, we will also support our existing US stores in New York, Boston and Cambridge as well as the new ones opening this coming fall in Beverly Hills and Palo Alto. Our plan is to build Marimekko into one of the most fascinating fashion and design brands in the US market,” says Mika Ihamuotila, Marimekko's President and CEO.
The week before the fashion show Marimekko will also participate in Fashion’s Night Out kicking off the New York Fashion Week with special events at Marimekko stores in New York and Boston.
