The International Apparel Federation (IAF) International Designer Award took place at the Alfândega do Porto, Portugal. Annually, this catwalk show offers designers from around the globe a platform which recognises and rewards the next generation of designers. It has come to be a respected part of the IAF World Apparel Convention, and an international platform for innovative, original and creative emerging fashion designers.

Harry van Dalfsen, IAF President: “By means of this award, IAF aims to build bridges between young designers, national fashion associations and the rest of the fashion industry. We are proud that through this initiative, international fashion design is promoted among the most influential decision-makers in the apparel industry.”

The 2011 award winner was invited as IAF’s guest, to attend the World Apparel Convention and show the collection entered last year at the catwalk show. Camilo Alvarez lives and designs in Medellin, Colombia. His objective is to make a connection between communication and fashion. For him, being a designer in a city where fashion is still developing is never a disadvantage, but a characteristic and a positive condition.
