Filipino fashion designers, who are considered to be the most creative designers in Asia, are seeking support from the Government, both in terms of financial assistance and business promotion, in order to boost the country’s fashion industry.

Fibre2fashion spoke to Mr. Wendell Quisido, one of the most successful and prolific Filipino fashion designers, on matters related to the country’s rapidly growing fashion industry.

“So far our fashion industry is doing quite good. It is a big market and we have around 500 to 600 designers in the whole country. Out of which, Cebu city itself has around 55 designers and the capital city Manila has nearly 100 designers,” he states.

“Filipino young designers are very talented. So, we want the government to support us in order to boost the performance of our industry,” he adds.

“We would like the government to allocate some funds for the betterment of the sector, and also want them to promote the young designers, who are really talented and full of enthusiasm, in the international market space,” he explains.

Filipino designers have clients in the US as well as in some countries in the Asia Pacific and European regions.

Talking about ‘The ‘Clothes for Life’, he says, “It is a charity organization, the members of which are all fashion designers and make-up artists. We do charity shows and raise funds for homeless people and people who have been affected by natural calamities or other disasters like fire.”
