LYCRA brand owner INVISTA is delighted to announce that Shireeka Devlin (from the UK) is the winner of the 2012 LYCRA Future Designers Award.

The ceremony was hosted by Cat Deeley and took place at The Savoy London as part of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. Award presenters included Pixie Lott and George Lamb.

Shireeka will receive a prize of LYCRA fibre product to use in a forthcoming collection, as well as a consultancy with INVISTA global production and marketing experts worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The judges described Shireeka’s designs as exploring “great use of colour, shape and detailing. This is a designer to watch as her collection matures in both design and presentation.”
Shireeka says, “I am so shocked but so happy to have won-- I was happy even to be nominated! It feels amazing to be recognised within the industry and especially with such an influential company. I can’t wait to start working with INVISTA and get creative with new ideas.”

“We were very impressed with all the collections but felt that Shireeka’s designs most embodied the creativity and versatility that the Lycra® fibre allows. We’re very pleased to be involved in discovering and launching the career of this new, inspired talent in the womenswear industry,” says Denise Sakuma, INVISTA Apparel global director of brand and communications.

Shireeka was chosen from 254 entries from hopeful designers around the world. Others shortlisted for the prize were Charli Cohen (UK), Derek Clarkson (USA) and Esther Kruyer (Netherlands).
